Apple or Android?

Throughout the rapid growth of the smartphone, 2 styles, or brands of phones have remained constant in the technology of smart phones over time. Apple and Android are the two dominant forces in the smartphone industry due to their unique strengths and market strategies.

The rise of Apple

The iPod was a unique and interesting take on a traditional MP3 player. Apple seems to have taken the iPod and used it as a starting point for its first iPhones. This sparked the iPhone revolution. True to the Apple ecosystem of Mac products, Apple designs, manufactures, and programs it’s iPhones all themselves which, as we’ll get to later, is notable difference between Android, which is just an operating system used by a variety of seperate phone manufacturers.

Android's Ascent

Google acquired Android in an attempt to enter the smartphone market in 2005. The open source nature of the Android operating system allows for manufacturers to use their own, or in some cases 3rd party parts and make the phones their way, but still use the Android operating system. Partly due to this being the case there is a wider range of different market offerings and customizations in the Android category. This is why Android remains a globally recognized name in the smartphone industry.

Today, Apple and Android are, indisputably, two of the top brands in the world. They continue to grow as new technologies and trends come and go. They are two constants in terms of phone technology for, at least, the last ten years. It may seem obvious, but, it is worth repeating. They are two constants in technology.

It is not without some remorse that I have gone with Apple for the whole time I've owned a phone besides a few Androids for brief periods of time. I like Apple products but I also like Android's simplistic design and basic function in my limited experience. "Apple works for everything I need it for." "Why would I go with anything else?" I often tell myself. Tablets aside, there can only be one pick for which phone to use for most of us (who don't own multiple phones). I have to say Apple has treated me well, and, I intend to keep plodding along on team Apple. However, it is not without a heavy heart that I see an Android ad (of some kind, though it is usually Google Pixel ads I see these days, perhaps for another post) and think, gosh, that could be me.

A Rivalry of Biblical(?) Proportions

When I think of how epic the rivalry between team Android and team iPhone is, I think about how completely epic things can be, because (did I mention?), the rivalry is epic. I can only imagine how history will look back at the invention of the iPhone and Android devices and discuss how their simultaneous invention was a marvel of industrial endeavor. It is not totally in jest that I say it is of biblical proportion. Imagine how magical it would have been for someone as far back as biblical times to be able to call someone on the other side of the earth, or to google map their journey. The smart phone is an incredible invention.
